Athlete Feedback on Coaches

Hear from your athletes about the people coaching them.

Academies find out about a coaching problem late, usually when a good athlete quietly leaves. This module gives athletes a direct line to the people who run the academy: a rating, a comment, and answers to whatever else you choose to ask — seen only by the staff you nominate, and never by the coach being written about.

Built for

  • Universities and academies accountable for coaching standards
  • Programmes running appraisals who want evidence from athletes, not just from staff
  • Anywhere athletes are unlikely to raise a concern face to face

Nobody can rate a coach who does not coach them

An athlete sees exactly the coaches who take their batches and their teams, and nobody else. There is no coach picker and no search. The list is built from your live enrolments and squads, and the same check runs again when the feedback is submitted — so this cannot become a way to attack a member of staff a student has never trained with.

  • Coaches of batches the athlete is actively enrolled in
  • Support staff of teams the athlete is currently in
  • Leaving a batch or a squad removes that coach from their list
  • Each entry records which batch or team it was about

The athlete decides whether to be named

Anonymity is chosen per submission, not set once by the academy. The same athlete may be happy to be named praising one coach and not to be named raising a problem with another. When they choose anonymity, no identifying detail is sent to the reader at all — it is withheld by the server, not merely hidden on the page.

  • A per-submission choice, not an academy-wide setting
  • Anonymous entries carry no athlete and no parent
  • Named entries show who wrote them, so you can follow up

Only the people you designate can read it

Reading athlete feedback is its own permission, granted to whichever roles you choose under Settings. Your System Admin has it already. A coach has no page, no notification and no way to see what has been said about them, which is what makes an honest answer possible in the first place.

  • A dedicated permission, assigned per role
  • Coaches are excluded by design, not by configuration
  • Average rating and response count per coach
  • Every response readable in full, newest first

Ask what matters to your academy

A one-to-five rating and a comment box are always there, so scores stay comparable across every coach. Underneath, add your own questions in the form builder you already use for athletes and inquiries — punctuality, session planning, whatever your appraisal actually covers.

  • A fixed rating so averages compare across coaches
  • Your own questions on top, in the usual form builder
  • Parents can submit for a child too young to have an account

Common questions

Can a coach see feedback about themselves?

No. There is no coach-facing page and no notification, and no endpoint that returns feedback about the person asking. Only roles you have granted the coach-feedback permission can read any of it.

Can an athlete give feedback about any coach at the academy?

No. They see only the coaches of the batches they are enrolled in and the teams they are part of. The rule is checked again when they submit, so it cannot be worked around.

What do we see when an athlete chooses to stay anonymous?

The rating, the comment and their answers to your questions, attributed to "Anonymous". The athlete and, where a parent submitted, the parent are both withheld — naming the parent would identify the child just as surely.

Our younger athletes do not have their own logins. Can parents respond?

Yes. A parent linked to an athlete can submit for them, and the entry records that it came from the parent so you know whose view you are reading.

Can somebody flood a coach with bad ratings?

Feedback can be given whenever something changes, but each athlete is limited to a few submissions per coach per day, so one person cannot move a coach’s average on their own.
